Larry Richard has made significant contributions to the labor industry throughout his career. Currently serving as an International Representative with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) since 2019, Larry has been instrumental in advocating for the rights and welfare of union members in the Maintenance, Construction and Energy sectors.

Larry’s journey in the labor movement began in 1998 when he was hired as a crane operator. His hands-on experience in the field allowed him to develop a clear understanding of the challenges and concerns faced by workers in the construction industry.

Prior to his current role, from 2011 to 2019, Larry served as a Business Representative for the IUOE Local 793. During this period, he demonstrated leadership and commitment to the union and its members. Larry’s contributions extended beyond his role as a representative as he took on additional responsibilities such as serving as an Auditor, Training Trustee, and a member of the Executive Board.

Larry’s dedication to the betterment of the energy sector was evident in his role as the Chair of the Renewable Energy Alliance of Ontario. This position allowed him to champion sustainable and environmentally friendly practices within the industry while creating jobs for IUOE members. Furthermore, Larry represented Local 793 in the EPSCA (Electrical Power Systems Construction Association) sector, where he actively advocated for the interests of the union and its members.

Prior to entering the construction industry, Larry spent two years serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. While working as a crane operator, Larry furthered his education by completing a small business course at college.

Currently, Larry represents IUOE members in the Maintenance sector on the General Presidents’ Maintenance Committee for Canada & National Maintenance Council for Canada (GPMC/NMC) committee. This role allows him to continue his advocacy for workers’ rights and to address the needs of members in the maintenance industry.
