A Teamsters Member since 1979, Gary Kitchen began his leadership career as a Business Agent with Local 880 in 1986. He was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Teamsters Construction Council of Ontario (TCCO) in 1989 and later appointed Assistant Construction Director for Teamsters Canada and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in 1999, while also serving as Director of the Package and Parcel Division.
Gary has held numerous senior leadership roles, including Vice President representing the Teamsters on the Ontario Provincial Building Trades and President of the Teamsters Construction Council of Ontario, a position he has held since 2005. He currently serves as Construction Director for Teamsters Canada and is actively involved on several boards and committees, including the CBTU Executive Board, the Ontario Construction Teamsters Benefit Plan (Chair), the Canadian Pipeline Advisory Committee, and H2H. Over his career, Gary has chaired negotiations for multiple national and international collective agreements and has contributed broadly across virtually every facet of the Teamsters organization. He has served as an Alternate Member of the GPMC Committee since approximately 2012.
Outside of his professional commitments, Gary has been married to his wife Sandra for 45 years and is the proud father of two children, Klare and Philip, and grandfather to an 11-year-old grandson. When not working, he enjoys spending time at his home on Lake Erie and restoring vintage motorcycles.
